Demanding Justice for Black Lives

Recent incidents of police brutality and systemic racism have left Black communities across our nation hurting and demanding change. As our community at Plano West is blessed with a diverse array of cultures, we recognize that now, more than ever, we must stand with our Black friends in demanding justice and equality.

In honor of Juneteenth and all black lives lost to unjustified police brutality, our team decided on a course of action that greatly deviates from what we normally do. Instead of writing letters of encouragement and support, this time, we wrote to attorneys who have not done enough in serving justice to black victims of police brutality.

We chose two prominent cases to focus on: the killings of Breonna Taylor and Elijah McClain. Both were victims of unjustifiable levels of force on behalf of the police, and none of the officers in either case are currently facing criminal charges. This time, we provided envelopes and stamps for mem

bers throughout the community to mail their own letters to Kentucky Attorney General Daniel Cameron (in charge of Breonna's case) and/or Adams County District Attorney Dave Young (in charge of Elijah's case), urging that the officers in question be held accountable for their actions.
